What Liberals Get Wrong About Trump’s Executive Order on Antifa
The Intercept, 2025
Article from the perspective of an anti-fascist organizer on the recent “antifa terror designation.” The article addresses the ways in which reactions from those opposed to Trump – primarily denying Antifa’s existence or that it is “organized” rather than rejecting the basic premise - might actually put antifascists at risk. It argues for the need to cultivate a renewed, thriving and organized (perfectly legal) antifascist movement despite repression. Faced with a government and authoritarian movement that is unrestrained by the courts and lawmakers, and that is nakedly weaponizing the power of the state, the judiciary, the military and law enforcement against dissidents and marginalized communities, it proposes a need to embrace, rather than obscure, the antifascist ethos of community self-defense, mutual aid and direct action.
